Hello

I currently teach Humanities and advise at Austin Community College and reside on the Journal of Beatles Studies editorial board.  My undergraduate background began at ACC with an AA in Education and BA in History and Political Science from Texas State. While my passion was teaching, I left it behind (at first) to  receive my MA in the Beatles, Popular Music, and Society, and later my PhD of Cultural Studies from Liverpool Hope University, England.

I am fascinated by music, fandom, print media, gender, and genre with a loving focus on teen fan magazines, rock journalism, women, and the Beatles.

I have appeared on many podcasts and has recently published my first book, TeenSet, Teen Fan Magazines, and Rock Journalism: Don’t Let the Name Fool You, a first of its kind considering the value of teen fan magazines, and I am published in the Journal of Beatles Studies, the Journal of 20th Century Media History, Rocksbackpages, and in Palgrave’s collected work, Words, Music, and the Popular

Advice for Students

"If you ever feel alone or lost in the world, go to a library, museum, cultural centre, theatre or walk around your town and explore. You will find, among 10,000 years of human creation, someone out there has felt what you feel and captured it, or created something you deeply connect with and make meaning from. You are never alone."
